Thunbergia grandiflora, often referred to as blue skyflower or Bengal clockvine, is a magnificent and vigorous perennial vine native to India and other parts of Southeast Asia. This vine is celebrated for its large, trumpet-shaped, sky-blue flowers that measure up to three inches across, creating a mesmerizing display of color in the garden. Its heart-shaped leaves provide an attractive backdrop to the striking blooms, which have a contrasting white or yellow throat. The twining, climbing nature of Thunbergia grandiflora makes it an excellent choice for covering arbors, trellises, and fences, while its lush growth and profuse flowering make it a favored addition to ornamental gardens. This plant is known for its rapid growth and ability to attract pollinators, such as bees and butterflies, and its low maintenance requirements. It thrives in warm and tropical climates, adding a tropical touch to outdoor spaces with its captivating blue blossoms and lush foliage.  Zones 8-11

To germinate Thunbergia grandiflora seeds, begin by soaking seeds for 24-60 hours or until seeds become soft. Plant the seeds in well-draining soil or a seed-starting mix, sowing them about 1/4 inch deep. Water the soil thoroughly after planting and maintain even moisture. Place the containers in a warm location with temperatures around 20-25°C (68-77°F) to encourage germination. Thunbergia grandiflora seeds typically germinate within 10-30 days under these conditions. Once the seedlings are robust enough to handle, they can be transplanted into individual pots or directly into the garden, where the dazzling blue skyflower will climb arbors, trellises, and fences, adding a touch of tropical beauty to garden landscapes and attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies.
