Lonicera sempervirens is a perennial in the Caprifoliaceae family. Some common names include Coral honeysuckle or Major Wheeler. A native to Connecticut, Nebraska, Texas, and Florida. Red trumpet-shaped blooms cover this honeysuckle vine beginning in late spring and continuing through autumn. A fast grower that reaches only 12 feet and makes it a good replacement for the aggressive Lonicera japonica. It is deer-resistant and a hummingbird favorite! The leaves and stems are waxy. It prefers to grow on a fence, roadsides, arbors, trellis', open woodlands, and the edge of clearings. from USDA Hardiness Zones 5-10
Germination
Mix seeds and moistened soil together in a ziplock bag. Write the name on the bag. Place in the refrigerator for 60 days. Soak seeds for 12 hours. Sow seeds into a well-drained, sandy compost and cover seeds to their own depth with sand or grit. Place the seed tray in bright light and keep moist. Seeds may germinate slowly.
