Azadirachta indica, commonly known as Neem, is a versatile evergreen tree native to South Asia, cultivated worldwide. It can grow up to 15-20 meters tall with dense foliage and a rounded canopy. Pinnate leaves are comprised of 20-31 leaflets. Small, white and orange, fragrant flowers cluster in axillary inflorescences. Fruits are olive-like drupes containing a single seed. Its leaves, seeds, and oil are valued for their antimicrobial, antiviral, and insect-repellent properties.  Zones 9-11

Germination

To germinate Azadirachta indica seeds, first, clean the seeds by removing any pulp or debris, and then soak them in water for 24 hours to soften their hard seed coat. After soaking, plant the seeds in a well-draining potting mix, burying them about 1 inch deep. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged by watering lightly whenever the top inch of soil feels dry. Place the pot in a warm location with indirect sunlight, ensuring temperatures remain between 75-85°F (24-29°C). Germination typically occurs within 2-3 weeks, but it can take longer, so patience is key. Once the seedlings emerge, provide them with ample light, gradually acclimating them to direct sunlight. Transplant them into larger containers or outdoors in well-draining soil once they develop a few sets of true leaves. Keep the soil consistently moist during the seedling stage, gradually transitioning to regular watering as the plant matures.
