Nyctanthes arbor-tristis, commonly known as the Night-flowering Jasmine or Parijat, is a small to medium-sized deciduous tree or shrub native to South Asia, particularly India and Southeast Asia. This plant is renowned for its exquisite, highly fragrant white flowers, which typically open at night and fall by morning, creating a mesmerizing and fragrant spectacle. The flowers have bright orange tubular centers and are traditionally associated with Hindu mythology. The tree bears simple, glossy, dark green leaves and small, two-seeded capsules. The Parijat tree is easy to cultivate and is often found in gardens and courtyards, adding a touch of elegance and fragrance to the evening air with its night-blooming blossoms.  Zones 10-11

Germination

Nyctanthes arbor-tristis seed germination involves a few key steps. Soak the seeds in water for about 24 hours to soften the outer coat. Plant the seeds in well-draining soil, burying them at a depth of about 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Use a heat mat and cover the seeds with a dome or plastic wrap while keeping the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Grow lights will help as well. Germination usually takes 1-6 weeks, with seedlings emerging. Once they have a few sets of leaves, transplant them into individual pots. Provide bright, indirect light and gradually acclimate the seedlings to outdoor conditions before planting them in the garden.
